The above photo is a statement of principle by the The Friends Committee on National Legislation, “A Quaker Lobby in the Public Interest.” They are generally just called F.C.N.L.
We have two of these signs for our yard.
According to themselves:
The Friends Committee on National Legislation (FCNL) fields the largest team of registered peace lobbyists in Washington, DC. Founded in 1943 by members of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), FCNL’s multi-issue advocacy connects historic Quaker testimonies on peace, equality, simplicity, and truth with peace and social justice issues which the United States government is or should be addressing. FCNL is nonpartisan.
Given all the bickering here in the last couple of days, I felt the need to inject a bit of peace back into my life. As I’ve reminded Friends, peace does not require agreement, to wit, they usually reply “Yeah, but you usually go looking for it.” Both are so true.
Even so, peace be with you all. Every last one of you, no exceptions.
Which reminds me, one of these days I need to blog about Robert Barclay‘s “Apology for the True Christian Divinity.” Just as soon as I finish reading Paul Tillich‘s “Systematic Theology, Volume 3: Life and the Spirit: History and the Kingdom of God.” Since I started “Systematic Theology, Volume 1” way back in 2002, I figure I’ll finish Volume 3 sometime in 2017.
