For all that I find amusement in those overwrought death and destruction “hypeumentaries” one often finds about androids, I find the real science much more fascinating. How many brain cells do you need to have a person? How many brain cells constitute my actual personality? When can you put a brain into an otherwise artificial body? How many of my brains calls do I need if my memories are hard-coded onto an artificial memory device like a flash drive? How much of my body can become artificial before I lose my Civil Rights? Is 100 brain cells in an android body enough to be legally classified as “Human?” Can machines eventual replace or regrow injured parts of the brain for us? Speaking as a brain cancer survivor, this is no ideal curiosity for me.
